Hello, happy Monday and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!

oooOOOoooOOOoooOoo!!

If you’re anything like me, this holiday rocks. Candy, random decorations of dead things, candy and little kids dressed up in strange and hilarious outfits. Yup, I’ll take it! I may or may not have forgotten to carve our pumpkin, so that particular activity may be on the afternoon agenda. Maybe.

I remember when my brother, sister and I were kids how excited I was for Halloween. The party at school, getting to wear your costume all day. Driving around and trick-or-treating at all the country neighbor’s houses. Knowing year after year which houses you had to visit first; the lady on the corner who made those delicious homemade popcorn balls {still warm sometimes!}, the house with the long driveway that boasted king sized candy bars, that one place that never had candy-but they improvised with cash and whole cans of pop!! Wow! Oh, how the world was our oysters when we tromped around in our homemade costumes. I clearly remember a mix of our costumes through the years as a witch, a mouse, the brother’s amazing Swamp Thing, the hideous year we were all clowns, a sock hop poodle skirt, a lion, fairy princess…and the various assortments of masks and monsters. Ah, memories.

Regardless of what we dressed up as, I remember having such a blast with my brother and sister. Running to houses, laughing while trading candy later, scheming where to hid the treasures in our room for easy access…childhood was full of great times with those two.

Which makes me always smile when I get to photograph other families. For even though I don’t know their stories, the memories that make them laugh until they cry {or cry until they laugh}, the inside jokes or the soft points of love, I know they’re there. They’re present in the secret smile between siblings, the loving hug from parents, they eye rolls, the giggles and everything in between. Because, regardless, ever family has a story just as wonderful as the next. And the few minutes I get to be immersed in someone else’s tale is just as glorious as going back in time myself.
