Last night I had the honor of bringing in a few samples of my work and talking about the importance of art in the home alongside artist Annie Young and art resource consultant Nicole Kappus Solheid at Che Bella Interiors’ first local artist showcase. We mingled with guests and enjoyed a slideshow presentation about art in your home from the ladies of Che Bella and a very touching presentation by blind painter Annie Young. After that, we mingled more, talked more art, ate more amazing food…

…and lemme tell you…

…it was SO much fun!!

It was  inspiring to talk with people about the importance of printing photographs and the many, many different options for displaying them. To get feedback about photographs that were imporant in their lives and how they have them in their homes. I brought in samples to show different options including framed and matted prints, canvas, bamboo mounted, metal, a photo book and even loose prints. I stressed my passion for creating unique sessions based on client feedback; really making the session your own and into something that you want to share in your home. The conversations we had were positively engaging and I’m just so thrilled to have had the option to meet and talk with so many art-like-minded people!

“Do you see what I feel…”

Listening to Annie talk of her experience of being a painter and then becoming blind at age 37 was unbelievably moving. Learning to read braille and, eventually, teaching herself to paint again, Annie spoke of her art not only as a way of healing, but as a way of living. She placed emphasis on her belief that everyone needs to own art; where you work, where you live…in your home. Pick art pieces not because they’re affordable or because they match your decor, rather, select items that pull you. That speak to you and that mean something to you. Art is a positive experience, it makes you happy.

I highly recommend checking out her website to see some of her work.

Nicole’s knowledge of the local artist industry is extensive and amazing. Need custom glass work? She knows a guy. Looking for a beautiful painting? Yeah, she’ll hook you up. In need of some seriously stunning pottery? Wall arrangements? Glass decoratives? Metal work? No worries-she’s got you covered. Did you know that Northeast Minneapolis was named 2015’s best Art District by readers of USA Today? Nicole definitely has her finger on the pulse of MN artists. And she gifted me my first piece of art so…she’s pretty much aces in my book.

And I cannot speak more highly of the fine ladies who make up the Che Bella Interiors team. Every guest last night had rave reviews about their innovative ‘thinking outside the box’ approach to design and use of space. Remodels or new construction, I sing their praise when it comes to color schemes, space designs, conceptual ideas and creative thinking. Plus, they’re all super sweet and so fun to hang out with!!

I was so excited to be a part of this event that I completely spaced on bringing my camera with me. Honestly. How sad? But I did snap a couple pics from my phone, although they really don’t do the event justice.

{Catering was done in-house by the daughter of Che Bella’s owner who doesn’t have a catering business…yet…!}
