I walked into the room, unsure of what to expect. My sister had started labor nearly four weeks early and it looked like things weren’t going to slow down soon. I sat by her side as she tried to stay comfortable in the hospital whirlpool tub, patiently breathing through contractions and simply trying to pass the time. I cracked jokes, braided her hair, fed her ice, kept her company. I told her she had to hold the baby in for at least another 32 minutes as it couldn’t possibly be a good thing to have the baby on tax day. She was still getting over her ear infection/strep throat/respiratory infection which sometimes made coughing (and laughing) difficult, but she was strong. She is strong. With her husband near death with a fever and the sickness himself in the delivery room chair, the room was a constant chorus of coughing, nervous laughter, pregnancy chitchat with the smell of Halls cough drops hovering while she paced and paused and breathed and continued. Patiently. Waiting.

And at 1:49am on April 16, exactly four weeks early, the waiting was over.

Welcome little MiaRae Elizabeth.

Taking after her uncle, Miss Mia was born in a snowstorm. In April. Go figure.

Yay–Mr. Nick and Miss Mia!!! 🙂

Seems like not that long ago we were visiting Beans at the hospital and now he’s visiting his sister!
