I knew I wanted something new and something different. Apparently, I am in love with blues, greens and browns (so peaceful and earthy!) that I just knew I needed to stick with that as my color scheme. I really like how my website looked and wanted a logo that was more in tune with its style and simplistic look. I tried my hardest to come up with something, but anything I designed I just wanted to puke on, ball up and swish into my waste bin. Honestly, I was getting absolutely nowhere and I was traveling there at a snail’s pace. Then, one day while aimlessly searching Etsy (if you’ve never been, you have to check it out. Love!) I came upon the perfect solution to my issues: Amber Mabe.

She was absolutely fantastic to work with and I could not be more pleased with the final outcome! I told her I was so pumped about how everything looked that I wanted to conduct a mini-blogstyle interview just to show off her fabulousness (it’s a word, I swear!).

Hey, Amber, where is your website?!
Website is currently in the works, but my portfolio site is here and my Etsy shop is here.

Why/how did you decide to become a graphic designer?
I have always drawn and doodled since I could pick up a pencil, and despite several years of trying every other major besides an art related one, I finally caved and went back to school for Graphic Design. That turned out to be the best decision I have ever made!

How long have you been designing?
Professionally, since 2005. But I have always been involved in art and design projects for schools, groups, churches, etc. since I was a kid.

How do you even begin piecing something together?!
I generally start with a standard questionnaire to get a feel for the style my client is hoping to achieve and find out more about their business, and from there I ALWAYS start with sketches. Sketches make the whole process work so much better as it allows for more creativity to come through versus trying to do everything from start on a computer.

What’s your favorite part about designing logos/products?
I get to make art for a living!

Any fantastic new projects on the horizon that you’d care to share with us?
Several! I have been experiencing a lot of success via Etsy, and I’m hoping to continue on there as well as start up my website (finally) to offer a higher-end selection of design options. 😉
