It’s inevitable. The first few shots of any session look and feel staged, awkward and are usually what I classify as ‘throw aways’. Which is completely fine as it takes a bit to become comfortable in front of the camera and have natural poses–I get that. Therefore, I like to preface most sessions by letting the client know this; allowing for me to goof off a bit and for them to relax and be real people. When I relayed this to Tiffany and Danny, the proceeded into an immediate belly bump, arms splayed, huge smiles and we were immediately all laughing. I knew it was going to be good.
