The day was a warm one. The humidity hung heavy, nearly touchable in the air while the sun shined brightly above and the cicada’s hummed their tune of summer. The whipping wind was a godsend for a brief reprieve from the dense climate. Clouds were dark and foreboding far off on the horizon; easily far enough away as to not even compete with the bustle and commotion of the giggling voices and smiling faces inside the air conditioned bridal room…
She was calm but ready. Oh, so ready. Ready for a champagne toast with her favorite ladies. Ready for her mother to help her into her gown. Ready to make sure that everything was just how it should be. But, even more that all of that, even more than the dress and the flowers and the noise and the wind and the stormy clouds and the heat, she was ready for him.
And there he stood, collected and patient, charming and quietly smiling…waiting for her.
