Last week I attended a workshop that really got me to open my eyes and see my business {and my life} from a new perspective. I hope to get into that particular experience more in another post, but what I really took away from it was the importance of having photographs. The course leader said over and over again, ‘Don’t let your jpgs grow up to be jpgs’. In other words, print your images. Make people understand the imporance of printed materials. Nobody cares if you have this fabulous shot on your blog, computer or tucked away safely in an external harddrive where it will be seen maybe a handful of times before it’s forgotten. Get those images out, on good old paper and ink for people to enjoy. Having digital files to keep just in case is fine, but Print. Those. Photographs!!! Display them in your home, laugh and reminisce, glance at and smile…enjoy them. Life is fleeting and moments are precious. I thought it was a pretty good point.

In the past year or so that I have had the pleasure to photograph the Sammon family, I have noticed that they do just that. Their home is bursting with printed photographs of their lives to this point; a wedding, two little boys, farm life and everything in between. It’s beautiful and heartwarming to see so many images come to life and see more than just the inter-workings of social media and a computer file.
